firefly Introduces 60 kWh Battery, Extending CLTC Range to 560 km

On October 23, 2026, firefly, the high-end smart electric compact car brand, unveiled its 60 kWh battery, extending its CLTC range to up to 560 km, the longest in its segment. With the new battery, the firefly is priced from RMB 136,800, or from RMB 79,800 with Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) subscription plan, plus a monthly battery rental fee of RMB 599. With the 60 kWh long-range battery and a 42 kWh standard-range battery, the firefly offers users the flexibility to choose the range that best fits their lifestyle, whether for daily commutes, trips nearby, or longer journeys.

firefly officially launches the 60 kWh battery

The new 60 kWh battery uses NCM battery chemistry, extending the driving range while maintaining the vehicle’s existing acceleration performance and energy efficiency.

In battery safety, firefly follows the same safety standards as NIO, subjecting its batteries to 14 rigorous safety tests that exceed national standards. firefly batteries feature an all-aluminum grid structure, cross-shaped anti-collision beams, and a design that physically isolates liquid and electrical components. In addition, the 60 kWh battery incorporates multiple thermal protection measures tailored to the characteristics and specific thermal safety requirements of NCM battery chemistry, further strengthening thermal isolation and protection against thermal runaway.

firefly batteries follow NIO’s long-life battery technology strategy, combining advances in battery development with innovations in battery operations to promote battery health and long service life. Five cell technologies: low-lithium-loss anodes, passivated cathodes, biomimetic self-healing electrolytes, electrode microstructure engineering, and adaptive swelling-force management work together to slow battery degradation and support lasting performance throughout the battery’s service life.

The launch of the 60 kWh battery demonstrates the value of firefly’s upgrade-ready architecture. From the outset of vehicle development, firefly adopted a standardized battery module design that accommodates different battery capacities. Existing users can also choose to permanently upgrade to the 60 kWh battery. Backed by NIO’s battery swapping network, firefly users can enjoy a longer driving range without replacing their vehicles, benefitting from the “chargeable, swappable, and upgradable” battery solutions.

Since its market launch, firefly has delivered more than 90,000 vehicles, maintaining its leading position in China’s high-end smart electric compact car segment. Supported by its upgrade-ready architecture and NIO’s comprehensive capabilities in safety, technology and energy services, the introduction of the 60 kWh battery further enriches the choices offered to users, broadening the range of journeys firefly can accommodate.
