firefly launches the pixel player special edition
On June 10, 2026, firefly introduced “pixel player,” its first special edition featuring a solid metal roof. Limited to 333 units, the new edition is priced at RMB 135,800, or RMB 95,800, under the BaaS plan, with deliveries beginning the same day. Inspired by the “freedom to glow” spirit, firefly continues to expand the boundaries of small-car culture through a series of distinctive special editions. More than just a car, it embodies individuality, style, and the freedom to glow your own way.

Inspired by pixel aesthetics, the pixel player special edition blends the fun of gaming culture with a free-spirited lifestyle. Created for a new generation drawn to pixel art and ACG communities, it encourages people to approach life with curiosity, creativity, and a playful mindset.

As firefly’s first special edition featuring a solid metal roof, the pixel player is finished in lava stone, with volt green and cyber blue pixel graphics flowing rearward from the roofline. The result is a vehicle that looks as though it came straight out of a classic video game. Gloss-black alloy wheels and a sporty multi-spoke design blend seamlessly with the darker areas of the exterior, bringing the immersive feel of a racing game.
Gaming-inspired touches are woven throughout the design. Drawing from 8-bit visual culture, the pixel graphics subtly conceal the silhouette of the firefly mascot as an Easter egg. Pixel-style “start” lettering on the doors and roof evokes the nostalgia of classic arcade games. Near the lower doors, a miniature mascot icon and pixel-dot graphics appear as if loading a player profile. The upgrades go beyond appearance. The solid metal roof improves thermal insulation and sun protection while increasing rear headroom. Combined with the standard g-force performance package, the vehicle delivers a precise, responsive, and effortlessly fun driving experience.

Inspired by the idea of a player’s camp, the cabin features a new black-and-beige embroidered theme. The beige fabric headliner, designed as a camp dome, brings warmth and softness to the interior, creating the feeling of a game about to load and a space where occupants can quickly recharge upon returning. Exclusive in its class, the Tatami embroidery technique creates a refined texture through dense, intricate stitching. Inspired by classic 8-bit games, pixel-art embroidery featuring the campfire save point and the firefly mascot appears across the door panels and center console. Together, these details turn the cabin into a space where gaming culture meets everyday comfort. The experience continues digitally with exclusive ambient wallpapers and a dedicated locking sound effect. Playful and immersive, these touches reinforce the design theme, adding a sense of ceremony to the end of every journey.

Starting June 10, firefly will launch a pixel-themed pop-up event at NIO House, Huaxi LIVE · Wukesong in Beijing, inviting visitors into a retro-inspired pixel universe. The pixel player special edition will also arrive at selected stores across key cities in China for visitors to experience its distinctive design and character firsthand.
